The following points should be observed when using compensating wires:

Why are compensating wires necessary for thermocouple temperature measurement? What precautions should be taken? Improper usage is unacceptable.

(1) Each type of compensating wire must be paired exclusively with its corresponding thermocouple model; specifically, within the specified temperature range (0–100°C), the thermoelectric characteristics of the thermocouple and its matching compensating wire must be identical.

(2) The temperature at the junction connecting the compensating wire and the thermocouple must not exceed the specified maximum operating temperature.

(3) When connecting the compensating wire to the thermocouple and the instrumentation, the positive and negative terminals must not be reversed; furthermore, the two connection points must be maintained at the same temperature.

(4) The wire gauge (diameter) of the compensating wire should be selected based on the circuit resistance requirements of the associated instrumentation.
