Type K Precision Shielded Cable

A large VFD turns on. The temperature reading from the nearby thermocouple starts jumping wildly. What is happening? An ordinary compensating wire without shielding works like an antenna. It absorbs electromagnetic interference. This interference adds to the millivolt level thermal potential.

Our product is an anti electromagnetic interference compensating wire. Its operating temperature is -20°C to 100°C. It is the standard choice for connecting thermocouples next to VFD cabinets.

The conductor is still KPX positive and KNX negative. This is precision grade alloy wire. It ensures accurate matching of thermal potential. The insulation is PVC. The colors tell the positive from the negative.

The core is the shielding layer. After stranding the insulated cores, we wrap a layer of tin plated copper wire braid. The braid density is strictly controlled above 80%. This metal mesh reflects and absorbs electromagnetic interference waves from the outside. Then it sends them into the ground.
The outer layer is a weather resistant PVC sheath. This sheath protects the shielding layer from oxidation. It also protects it from mechanical damage.
We did real tests. In a 50V/m radio frequency field, the reading fluctuation of the shielded compensating wire was more than 70% less than the unshielded model.
This wire meets the precision grade S standard, just like the KX-GS-VV model. The thermal potential error from 0 to 100°C is ≤±1.0°C. Adding a shielding layer does not reduce temperature measurement accuracy.
The Type K Precision Shielded Cable has an operating temperature of -20°C to 100°C. The minimum bend radius is 6 times the cable outer diameter. The shielding layer must be grounded at one end only. Ground it at the control room instrument side. This avoids ground loop current. Grounding both ends will reduce the shielding effect.
