Underground Mining Cable

Putting a cable in a coal mine vertical shaft. The depth is hundreds of meters. The cable's own weight stretches the conductor thin. Steel tape armour can handle pressure. But it cannot hold something this heavy.

Our cable uses fine steel wire for armouring. It is made for fixed power supply systems with large vertical drops. It holds the MA mark. It is suitable for the critical path from the surface substation down to the underground main substation.

The conductor is copper. The insulation is XLPE. This ensures efficient power transmission at 90°C working temperature.

The armour layer is the core. We use galvanized fine steel wire for loose wrapping or braiding. Steel wire has a round shape. Its tensile strength is usually between 350 and 550MPa. The diameter and number of steel wires are precisely calculated based on the total cable weight and the shaft depth. The safety factor is very important.

We make the inner liner thicker. This cushions the pressure from the steel wire. The outer sheath is flame retardant PVC. It fills the gaps between the steel wires. It also locks the steel wires in place.

The permitted pulling force of the armour layer can reach 2 to 3 times the cable's own weight. The safety factor is high. For example, for a 300 meter long vertical cable, the steel wire armour fully carries the total weight. The conductor does not get thin or break from long term tension. This is something the steel tape armoured MYJV22 cannot do at all.

The steel wire armour provides good side pressure resistance as well as high tensile strength. It can handle the bending radius in the shaft.

The Underground Mining Cable has a voltage rating of 0.6/1kV to 8.7/10kV. Working temperature is -40°C to 90°C. Minimum bend radius is 12 times the cable outer diameter.

For vertical installation, install a cable clamp every 1.5 to 2 meters. This spreads the load on the armour layer. Install a cable hanging device at the middle joint location. The armour layer must be reliably grounded at both ends.
