Next to a large VFD array. Inside a welding machine room. Near a high voltage switch station. How bad is the electromagnetic environment in these places? A single shielding structure cannot handle it. It needs to block strong outside interference and also stop internal crosstalk.

Our Individually and Overall Shielded Control Cable uses a double shielding structure with pair shielding plus overall shielding. Its voltage rating is 300/500V. It gives double protection for computer measurement and control systems.

The first line of defense is for internal interference. Each pair of cores uses an aluminum plastic composite tape wrap or copper wire braid as a pair shielding layer. This layer absorbs and drains away high frequency crosstalk signals from adjacent pairs. The isolation is very high.

The second line of defense is for external interference. After stranding all the pair shielded cores together, we wrap a high density copper wire braid overall shielding layer. Coverage is 85% or more. This layer blocks strong electromagnetic radiation from outside, like from VFDs and wireless signals.

The insulation is polyethylene. This gives low capacitance. We usually wrap an isolation tape between the inner and outer shielding layers. This stops direct contact and signal coupling. The outer layer is a flame retardant PVC sheath.

The pair plus overall shielding structure gives the cable a shielding factor of 0.01 or less. That means it attenuates more than 99% of interference energy. In the 30 to 1000MHz frequency range, the composite shielding attenuation can easily exceed 80dB. This is far better than the 40 to 60dB of single braid shielding.

The voltage rating is 300/500V. Working temperature is 70°C. Working capacitance is ≤0.06 μF/100m. With overall shielding, capacitive coupling is even lower.

When installing, the pair shielding layer and the overall shielding layer must be brought out separately. We suggest grounding the pair shielding layer at one end only. This stops ground loop interference. Ground the overall shielding layer at both ends. This gives a low impedance path for high frequency interference. This professional grounding method is the key to getting the best performance from this cable. The minimum bend radius is 6 times the cable outer diameter.
