Xlpe Insulated Armoured Cable

Direct burial. Road lighting. Underground incoming lines for residential areas. Factory power. In these places, cables face soil pressure, excavator damage, and rodent bites. Ordinary cables without armour cannot handle this.

Our Xlpe Insulated Armoured Cable is the most widely used armoured model in our family. Its full name is copper core XLPE insulated steel tape armoured PVC sheathed power cable. It is made for systems from 0.6/1kV up to 26/35kV that need direct burial or to withstand large mechanical forces.

After stranding the XLPE insulated cores, we extrude an inner liner. We usually use PVC tape or PE tape. Its job is to cushion the pressure from the steel tape. It stops the steel tape edge from cutting the inner insulation cores when bending.

The armour layer is the core. We use double layer galvanized steel tape. We wrap it around the inner liner with a gap. The two steel tape layers are wrapped in opposite directions. No matter which direction the side pressure comes from, the steel tape forms an arch support. The pressure is spread evenly.

The outer layer is a PVC sheath. This sheath protects the steel tape from moisture and chemical corrosion in the soil.

The armour layer can handle side pressure of 10kN/m without damaging the insulation. It can directly handle heavy vehicle pressure. It also handles foundation settlement pressure. The armour layer also provides some axial tensile strength, about 1.5kN. This makes it easier to pull through a direct burial trench.

The Xlpe Insulated Armoured Cable has a voltage rating covering 0.6/1kV to 26/35kV. The conductor long term working temperature is 90°C. During a short circuit (5 seconds max), it is 250°C. The working environment temperature is -40°C to 90°C.

Because of the steel tape, the minimum bend radius must be strictly controlled at 10 times the cable outer diameter for multi core. For single core, it is 12D. For direct burial, we suggest putting 100mm of fine sand at the bottom of the trench. Put bricks or a protection plate on top of the cable. Then backfill with soil.

We have a dedicated quality control department. They do random checks. We have dedicated staff for after sales service. We accept third party inspection.
